Adam Langdon, NYU ‘21, has been stuck on a local R train since August 27th.

Mr. Langdon, known as “the long one” among his friends, of Red Wing, MN has been unable to get off the train since he left 8th Street - NYU station to try a new juice shop in Long Island City two months ago. Wanting to quench his thirst from a long day of moving in, cold pressed juice seemed like a good idea to him. In an in-transit interview, we were able to catch Mr. Langdon in his car, of which the back half has been transformed into a mess of ramen cups and old newsprint.

When asked why he had not left the train, Mr. Langdon replied that his politeness would always get the better of him.

“I always try to make sure I let those ahead of me get off the train first, and those behind me, and those who want to get on.” Mr. Langdon continued that by the time he was the only person left wanting to leave the train, the doors had already closed.“ And the sign says ‘don’t hold the doors open’, so once they’re closed, they’re closed.” When asked why he didn't get off the train during the late night hours when the trains would be empty, Mr. Langdon replied that at those hours he slumbered.

“If I don't slumber now how will I be alert for my classes,” he argued. When told that most of his classes had already had their first round of midterms, Mr. Langdon shrugged. “I've e-mailed the professor about my situation.”

As the R train approached 8th Street, the same ritual of pushing and shoving erupted along the doors. As our news team watched in pity, crowds pushed by him, and he simply smiled.

“I'm sure a Good Samaritan will come along and let me go first,” he assured us as we left the train, waving as the doors closed.

Reports say that he remains on the train, although recent Fix & Fortify renewal efforts have called for retirement of all R railcars. Until then, you can catch Mr. Langdon on car R1368.
