NEW YORK- On the night of October 16, the Michigan based band, Been Stellar, set out from their current residence at Brittany Hall to the Brooklyn performance venue, “The Rubulad.” They carried three guitars, a bass guitar, a synthesizer, an amp, and the hopes that the newly formed NYC version of their hometown band would perform well that night. The evening opened with some performance art that has been described to me only as “interesting,” in which a woman used her stage time as an opportunity to give herself a haircut.
The event following this demonstration of true devotion to one’s art, I witnessed something so profound, I am deeply conflicted on how to convey it in print. Another artist, spent an entire three minutes slurping oatmeal—a deep exploration of what it means to consume in this world. Is the act of eating for nutritional purposes alone or is it ultimately a spectacle so we fit into our society, a concept so provocative, I do not expect to experience something as transcendental for a long while.

As for Been Stellar: their set was energetic and lively, causing no fewer than twenty people to bob their heads and jump up and down. Listen to Been Stellar’s debut LP “Sells Out” on Apple Music, Spotify, and Bandcamp.
